Among nearly 500,000 exhibits on display here, there is a rich collection of original documents including a signed decree from Napoleon and the correspondence of Mikhail Gorbachev.

Travel back in time passing by the memorial cruiser Aurora, which played an important role in the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917. This legendary ship gave the signal (by firing a blank shot) to storm of the Winter Palace, which was being used as a residence by the Provisional Government.

Admire the Smolny ensemble, a number of fabulous structures put up at different times. The oldest are amazing buildings of the Novodevichiy Convent and the Alexandrovsky Boarding School for Girls for educating girls from middle-class families. In 1917 the Smolny Broading School became the revolutionary headquarters. It was here that Lenin resided during the upheaval.
